ScreenAway for iOS · Effective 28 August 2026
The short version: ScreenAway collects nothing. The app contains no networking code — it has no server, no account system, no analytics, no advertising, and no third-party SDKs. Everything the app knows lives on your iPhone and nowhere else.
Screen Time data
ScreenAway uses Apple's Screen Time frameworks (Family Controls and Device Activity) with your explicit permission to measure the time you spend away from your device. This is engineered so that ScreenAway learns as little as possible:
- The apps you choose to track are represented by opaque tokens. ScreenAway can never see app names, categories, or content — only Apple's Screen Time system can.
- Usage is observed by a small system extension that receives anonymous threshold events ("some usage happened") and stores timestamps only on your device.
- The screen-time totals shown on the History tab are rendered by a sandboxed Apple report extension. The main app never receives that data at all.
None of this ever leaves your iPhone. It is stored in the app's private container, is pruned automatically after 14 days, and is deleted entirely when you delete the app.
AI insights
Daily insights are generated by Apple Intelligence on your device (Apple's on-device foundation model). The model receives only pre-computed totals — minutes away, streak length, goal — and writes a short encouraging note. No text, statistic, or identifier is sent to any server, ours or anyone else's. On devices without Apple Intelligence, the app uses built-in template text instead.
Focus sessions
Starting a focus session shields the apps you selected using Apple's Managed Settings framework, entirely on-device. Which apps are shielded is known only to the Screen Time system, via the same opaque tokens.
Wallpaper screenshot
If you enable the transparent widget, you can pick one screenshot of your Home Screen from the photo picker. Apple's picker runs outside the app, so ScreenAway never gains access to your photo library — only to the single image you choose, which is stored on-device solely to draw the widget background and never leaves your iPhone.
What we collect
Nothing. No personal information, no identifiers, no usage analytics, no crash reports, no location, no contacts. The App Store privacy label reads "Data Not Collected" because there is no mechanism in the app that could collect data.
Children
ScreenAway uses individual Screen Time authorization for your own device. It is not a parental-control product and does not knowingly collect anything from anyone — including children — because it collects nothing at all.
Changes
If a future version ever changes any of the above (for example, optional iCloud sync), this policy and the App Store privacy label will be updated before that version ships.
